Being an ex Spanish colony means that Peru has many traditions that come from Spanish culture. Bullfighting being one of them.

Our house mamá asked if we wanted to go after church on Sunday.

The event was commenced with native dancing a bit similar to hip hop but to live folk music and with funkier getups... |
|
...and scissors. |
There were gifts thrown into the crowd which they went crazy over and this resulted in a wave just like you would see at a baseball game. As the wave came our way I ducked for cover as some pens were thrown in our direction. Our house mom stood up, caught one and said "Here, you'll need this for school." The crowd also went nuts when the first bull was let lose in the ring. I couldn't believe how crazy the bulls became when teased by the silly red capes. Four different bulls were used each one a bit bigger than the last.

Notice the guys hiding behind the Arequipeña advertisement/trench? |
After the men in tights took their bows and left the arena, a smaller bull was let loose and anyone who was
loco enough, was invited to have a try, using whatever you add on you for a cape. All you had to do was jump into the arena. Didn't even have to clear it with anyone.
